Opening day.

vs. Red Sox 18-11-1

vs. Red Sox, as defending World Series champs, 8-2

Still good. Another win would have been better, of course.

Day one. Seventeen more games to go vs. Red Sox. Odds still
in our favor. No worries.

Highlights:

First HR of the new 2010 season, same guy that hit the first
HR in the new Yankee Stadium, gotta love him, Posada.

Next batter up: # 14, first at bat as a Yankee, a HR. Just one more sign, he has that
“Yankee quality,” the character, the class, and that last crucial piece, the
magic. That HR was a magical start. Not letting it go to his head; being ready
for the great catch of Beltre’s sac fly in the bottom of the same inning. Very
professional play. Made the captain proud, I’m sure.

Double steal? Are you kidding me? Beautiful! Heads up play by
Jete and Gardner in the fourth. That’s what I’m talking about. That’s my
Yankees.

Posada’s third hit of the night…in the 9th. A
gamer. Always. Like I said, gotta love him.

Lowlights:

Ugh! At the risk of giving this narcissist any more
attention…Pedro throwing out the first pitch. Did get a chuckle out of
announcers saying how they had to edit the tape because Pedro took so much time
basking in the adulation. Surprise. Surprise.

The audacity to change the American flag to fit the Green
Monster?!! The Stars and Stripes has 9 rows of stars, 5 rows of 6, alternating
with 4 rows of 5. The “Green” version had 5 rows of 10. What?! I don’t care how
much Red Sox Nation reveres the Green Monster! THE Nation reveres its flag. Don’t tread on our flag.

Marte’s “cranky” arm. I think Yankee Universe is feeling a
little cranky today, the morning after.

Gardner’s pathetic throw from left field to….where exactly
was he throwing? Hard to tell where he was aiming. Unforgivable. Ok, maybe
that’s harsh. But, come on! This is the big leagues. Yeah, the steal was
sweet.  Stealing home, it doesn’t get
better than that. He didn’t have a bad game, 2 for 4, with an RBI. However,
that throw? Well, that just can’t happen. Period.

That foul pole in right isn’t the only “pesky” thing in
Fenway. That Pedroia is pretty pesky, if you ask me.

Losing.

Yeah, yeah. My lowlights list is longer than my highlights
list. But, I’m not a glass half-full kind of person. It was Opening Day. It was
a beautiful day. It wasn’t an embarrassing loss. And there’s baseball to play
and avenge tomorrow. Every game, a perfect game, if it’s baseball. No
other game like it.

So happy to see you have a blog here, Abby! And it was fun reading about your background in your profile and how you became a Yankee fan. I wish we’d won the first game last night, but hopefully we see a better performance tomorrow night. Fingers crossed.
